Puzzle Mechanics Reference and Searchable Database

Quick Answer

Look up mirrors, clones, heroes, stones, beams and combined mechanics in Order of the Sinking Star, then search 82 documented guide entries across 10 regions.

Use the visible characters and objects to choose a mechanic, then match the starting layout in the database below. This reference covers the four foundations and the combined areas documented on this site. It is a reference to puzzle rules, not an RPG equipment-build list.

Four foundations at a glance

The Crossroads lets you explore the initial directions in your own order. Later combined rooms reuse these rules together. An object shared by two worlds does not give those rooms a common numbering system.

Mirrors, copies and extended reflections

For a mirror transfer, check the subject's current square and its reflected destination separately. Moving the mirror and moving the subject are different changes to that relationship. After a crossing, preserve access to the side needed for the next move.

Character copies add more than one relevant position to that inspection. The documented Part 2 and Part 3 rooms introduce copies, spacing and extended reflections in different arrangements. Read the entry's identification text before applying a route: clone movement and mirror swaps have their own guides.

Heroes, stones and shared access

Use hero movement to distinguish the push, pull and swap actions. In a multi-hero room, clearing a path for one character can remove the position another character needs. Inspect every controlled hero after changing an object.

Stone puzzles can involve rock platforms, lily-pad currents, loops, treasure detours or objects carried between screens. These are distinct mechanics in the filter below. Select the mechanic visible on your board; a treasure route is listed as a guide entry and is not presented as a separate numbered puzzle.

For mixed mirror and water rooms, start at Mirrors and Stones. Rooms involving heroes as well as water have a separate Heroes and Water guide.

Colored beams and devices

The Level 1 entries distinguish yellow-beam destruction, teal-beam pushing, red-barrier removal, green-wall travel and orange teleporting. They also document gem holders and manual pushing with the rod. Treat these as actions in the cited Level 1 route, rather than a claim that every later device has the same behavior.

The four Level 1 entries are linked route phases. Read the beginning of the relevant phase to confirm which gems and devices are already available. Starting halfway through a phase without its earlier setup may make an otherwise correct instruction unusable.

Search the documented mechanics

Choose a mechanic to find matching guide entries across the 10 covered regions. Search by world, room label or visible object as well. The 82 entries include screens, phases, crossings and treasure routes; they do not represent all of the game's 1,000-plus puzzles.

Sources, verification and update scope

This reference summarizes the site’s cited walkthrough entries. Open an entry in its regional guide to read its source links and layout limits. The official Steam game description establishes the four foundations and their combinations; it does not validate every move sequence on this site.

Use progressive hints for a smaller clue and the local completion tracker to keep a revisit list. Routes were checked against published references, not represented as personal in-game tests. A game update, another starting state or a different stage label can change which entry applies.
