These notes summarize official Steam announcements checked on October 15, 2026. They focus on changes that can affect a walkthrough or a recovery attempt. Announcement dates identify the updates; the publisher did not supply a numbered build version in these notes. Do not assume that a Steam announcement proves that another platform has received the same patch.
October 14: checkpoints and mixed-world fixes
The official October 14 update reports fixes affecting checkpoint states and puzzle shortcuts:
- A checkpoint problem in the second Skipping Stones level, plus a shortcut in its third level.
- An early Mirrors and Stones exploit and a route that could lead to a bad checkpoint in Skipping Stones to Lonely Homes.
- Checkpoint behavior in a Bard, Thief and Endpoint Beam level, and a missing Trader companion in a mirror level.
- Clearer unvisited level entrances and assorted late-game readability fixes.
These changes can explain why an older video or instruction no longer reproduces a shortcut. The announcement does not identify all affected boards by the part and stage numbers used by walkthrough authors. It therefore does not establish that every route on this site changed.
October 12: Reflected Beams, water routes and Proton
The first October 12 announcement describes fixes in Reflected Beams, Stones Illuminated, Heroes and Stones, and water-based checkpoints. It also mentions changes to quickly moving objects, objects passing through rivers, and an undo recovery for a Wizard left inside a wall after a fix.
The second October 12 announcement says the update was intended to address the E_INVALIDARG crash with Proton on Steam Deck, Steam Machine and Linux. The wording is provisional; it is not a guarantee that every crash with that message is resolved.
Before retrying a walkthrough
- Check that your installed copy is up to date through the store you use. This site cannot inspect your installed build.
- Match the room's heroes, movable objects and initial arrangement. Do not infer a room from water or a mirror alone.
- If you already changed the board, inspect undo and checkpoint coverage before resetting. A checkpoint restores its covered state, not necessarily the start you expected.
- For mixed mirror-and-stone rooms, use the part selector; for the early southern route, use Skipping Stones Level 1.
Report a route that differs
Send the editor the page address, part or screen label, platform, installed version if available, and the first action whose result differs. Describe whether you started from a fresh room, an undo state or a checkpoint. Use the contact page and omit private account details.
The official notes confirm changes to the game. They do not validate our full library after the update, and this page does not claim a new in-game test of all documented routes.
